Plomari Harbour (Lesvos)

38° 58.4′ N · 26° 22.3′ E

The only sizeable town on Lesvos' south coast and the capital of ouzo, a working harbour backed by distilleries, soap factories, old boatyards and a plane-tree square.

Practical

Coordinate is the tourist harbour (Touristikos Limenas Plomariou) in OpenStreetMap; the port police station (Limenikos Stathmos Plomariou) and a Customs office are on the waterfront. Sources disagree on shelter: yachting.com calls the port safe from all winds, while the local charter skipper says swell in the harbour can be unbearable in easterlies (NE to SE) and they move to a nearby cove for the night. Grecosailor notes good shelter from the meltemi. Yachts moor stern-to or alongside where space allows. Shops in town for supplies; Grecosailor suggests confirming water and fuel in Plomari or Mytilene before late arrivals. Both ouzo museums (Varvagiannis and Arvanitis 'Ouzo World') are on the edge of town.

Best for
