Panormos Bay (Skopelos)

39° 6.5′ N · 23° 39.3′ E

A fjord-like bay on Skopelos' west coast with clear water and good snorkelling, sheltered by Dasia islet — a classic first or last night for charter yachts out of Skiathos.

Practical

Deep: most boats anchor with lines ashore, dropping the anchor as deep as possible in the south cove. Holding: west side of the south cove sand/rock with weed further north (mediocre); middle of the south cove sand, weed and rock (best spot); the east side is very deep. Take two stern lines with chafe protection or a stern anchor, keep 15–20 m off the rocks and reverse slowly. Gusts mainly N–NE; katabatic north winds can blow overnight. South cove: all-round protection except in a meltemi storm; north shore (Antrines) only in light winds or N–SE, exposed to NNW. Hazards: rocks and shallows; a wreck lies about 1.5 m deep in the middle and to the west of the southern arm and can foul your anchor (Sailing Issues logbook). Arrive before noon on summer weekends. Ashore: Kraken cocktail bar, Taverna Vasiliki, expensive beach grocery.
