Megisti Harbour (Kastellorizo)

36° 9.0′ N · 29° 35.5′ E

Greece's easternmost harbour: a horseshoe of tall, painted, wooden-balconied houses facing Kaş in Turkey across the strait. The ruined Knights' castle stands on the east point. It is the setting of the Oscar-winning film Mediterraneo.

Practical

Noonsite harbour entrance: 36°09.12'N 29°35.54'E. Berth stern-to on the town quay (mySea). The bottom is mud with some stone, holding moderate, so lay out plenty of chain. Strong gusts in the approach to the bay. Grecosailor: VHF 35 and tel +30 22460 49270 (verify locally); about 2 m depth where the reviewer berthed in the central part; no water or electricity. Fuel (Noonsite 2015): a tanker serves yachts from the ferry dock when the ferry is not there (early morning and late afternoon), tel +30 22460 70619 or through Papoutsis Travel. Officials are within a 3-minute walk of the quay (Noonsite 2016). Exposure: Sailboatliveaboard's guide notes exposure to the east. Arriving from Turkey, mySea warns to fly the EU (Greek) courtesy flag correctly. Ferries run to Rhodes and Piraeus and to Kaş (Wikipedia). The airport (KZS) has flights to Rhodes.

Best for

The far-eastern outpost: a must-stop if crossing to Kaş
