Anchorage· Rhodes· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean

Lindos Bay

36° 5.8′ N · 28° 5.2′ E

One of the highlights of the Dodecanese: anchor in a sweeping bay directly beneath the Acropolis of Lindos and its Knights' castle, with the white village tumbling down the hill.

Practical

Sailing Issues gives four options besides the pier: (1) between the pier and the NW cliffs, just outside the swimming zone, in 4–8 m; (2) in the north cove, minding the shallow patch under 3 m; (3) the preferred spots near the NW cliffs with a line ashore (this pin); (4) under the islets in the NE at the entrance. Enter with the two islets to starboard. Away from the sandy beach there are rocks and ledges, so use a trip line. mySea lists 2.5–7.5 m on sand and rock with good holding north of the jetty. The bay gives good shelter from SW to NNE. The pier berths are reserved for local caïques and tripper boats during tourist hours. The 'tourist tide' peaks from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Many cruisers anchor here and take the bus to Rhodes town rather than fight for a Mandraki berth (Noonsite).

Best for

An evening under the Acropolis

Season
