Anchorage· Leros· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean

Lakki Harbour (Leros)

37° 7.6′ N · 26° 51.2′ E

A deep, almost landlocked natural harbour, often called the largest and safest in the Dodecanese. At its head is Lakki, the 1930s Italian naval town of broad boulevards and rationalist buildings, with two marinas and a big anchorage.

Practical

Anchor off the town in 5–6 m on mud with good holding. There's some swell, but it's safe in northerlies; one crew sat out 30+ kn NW on anchor in 2017. Leros.gr notes a designated yacht anchoring area near the commercial port. A few yachts can also anchor stern-to in front of the old customs building, about 100 m east of the Agmar berths, clear of the coastguard berth. With a strong meltemi there are violent gusts entering the bay, and strong southerlies bring gusts and swell. Don't anchor here in SW–W winds unless you're inside a marina. Above-water rocks extend about half a mile off the coast just NW of the entrance. Port Police on VHF 12. Customs, marine shops, gas, provisions and ice are by the harbour. A 2016 report gives water at €8/ton and electricity €10 per 16 kWh at the town quay (verify locally).
