Koukounaries Beach (Skiathos)

39° 8.9′ N · 23° 24.2′ E

Skiathos' famous 'golden sand' (Chrysi Ammos) beach — a long arc of fine sand backed by a stone-pine forest and a lagoon, at the island's south-west end.

Practical

Heavily used by jet skis and noisy watersports. Holding is unpredictable: sand over rocky ledges or hard sand. Anchor off Maratha beach to the east if necessary, or preferably south of Xenia beach in the west if the weather allows; before June and after September you may get an alongside berth in the small port by the lagoon mouth (Sailing Issues). Yachting.com describes it as well protected from wind. Cocktails at the Mystique bar. Last stop on the bus route from town, 16 km away.

Best for

Iconic sand beach and access to the lagoon by dinghy

Season

Jun–Sep busy; best early or late in the day
