Kefalas Cave (Kalymnos)

36° 56.1′ N · 26° 56.8′ E

The most impressive cave on Kalymnos: about 1,000 m² across six chambers, with a 103 m hall of huge stalactites and stalagmites and traces of a sanctuary to Zeus.

Practical

Reach it by boat (the cove below is Kefalas bay, west of Vlichadia) or by the road from Pothia, which becomes a dirt road. From the road's end, pass St Catherine's Monastery and follow the painted waymarks. Discovered in 1961. CruisersWiki places it near Vlichadia. Opening arrangements vary, so check with the Pothia tourist office (+30 22430 29299). Coordinate from the municipal site's map pin.
