Evdilos Harbour (Ikaria)

37° 37.9′ N · 26° 10.9′ E

The only port on Ikaria's cliff-bound north coast and the island's one really secure harbour, a pretty village with a new inner basin for yachts and fishing boats.

Practical

Tie up alongside on the inner side or bottom end of the L-shaped jetty (2.5-3 m), or in settled weather alongside or anchor-moored on its outer side. Beware a rock pile at the jetty's 'elbow' (two steps up) with under 2 m, rocks of under about 1.6 m about 4 m off the mole, and underwater rubble/ballast along the quay and mole - Noonsite recommends bows-to; the quay is high with few tie-off points. In settled conditions anchor just east of the inner basin and west of the cliff in 5-6 m on sand, good holding. In strong NE winds (force 6-7+) a swell develops even in the basin and Noonsite calls the harbour untenable; the port police say uncomfortable rather than dangerous. Ferries surge the harbour for up to 20 minutes - fender well (CruisersWiki once listed late-night and 5:30 am arrivals; check the current timetable). Water and electricity from stanchions at the east end of the basin (bring a 50 m+ hose/cable for the jetty end). Bank with ATM, tavernas, three supermarkets, Camping Gaz.
