Chios Marina (Tefas concession)

38° 23.2′ N · 26° 8.3′ E

A breakwatered basin about a mile north of town, begun in the early 1990s and never finished — long used free of charge as the calm alternative to the rolly town harbour, and now being rebuilt as a proper marina.

Practical

STATUS: Noonsite (Feb 2025) reports the marina closed for re-development at the start of 2025; Naftemporiki (Dec 2024) reported construction starting for a 133-berth marina due by end of 2026 under Chios Marina S.A. — confirm it is open before relying on it. Before closure: no staff, no fees, no water/power/showers, fuel only by tanker truck; berth alongside (mySea), the east pier took about 15 boats, the rest filled by local and abandoned boats (Grecosailor). DANGER: reef and very shallow water just off the entrance; 2.8 m minimum off the breakwater, 3-4 m inside (Noonsite). Approach due west to the breakwater head, keep very close to it, then turn sharply to starboard (mySea); Grecosailor: submerged rocks near the red light, keep close to the green. Marina light Fl (OSM seamark). Four conspicuous windmills lie to the south. Bus to town and a large supermarket nearby; about a 30-minute walk to town. Grecosailor lists VHF 69 and port authority phone +30 22710 22770.
