Blue Cave (Kastellorizo)
36° 7.4′ N · 29° 34.4′ E
Fokiali ('seal's refuge'): a sea cave 40–50 m long, 25–30 m wide and 20–25 m high on Kastellorizo's south-east coast, larger than Capri's Grotta Azzurra. Sunlight refracted through the water fills it with electric blue.
Practical
Wikipedia: the entrance is barely 1 m above the sea, so it can be visited only by small boat and only in calm conditions; best early in the morning when the sun is low. Go by dinghy in a flat calm or with a local boatman from the harbour. Visitkastellorizo.gr lists Blue Cave visits among local businesses. Do not take a yacht close in. Swim inside only with a lookout outside; swell can close the entrance.
Best for
Early-morning dinghy trip into a glowing cave
Season
