Agios Zacharias Rock Formations Snorkel (Tilos)

36° 24.2′ N · 27° 25.6′ E · approximate

The west shore of the Agios Zacharias / Despoti Nero bay, south-east of Livadia, has rocky formations, small islets and a mini peninsula that Sailing Issues singles out for snorkelling.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a point in the bay just east of the line of tiny rock islets on the west shore mapped in OpenStreetMap (coastline ways around 36.4028 N, 27.4245 E). Anchor in the bay (see the Agios Zacharias & Despoti Nero anchorage entry) and swim or dinghy over. The bay is open to NW through NE, so pick a calm day or a southerly; it is off the beaten track and rarely crowded. Ashore, follow the stream uphill to the ruins of Ancient Gera (Sailing Issues). Tilos and its islets are an EU Natura 2000 Special Protection Area (Wikivoyage): take nothing.
