Vlychada Boatyard (Santorini)

36° 20.2′ N · 25° 26.1′ E

Vlychada is Santorini's only lift-out point, a small hardstand inside the fishery shelter used mainly by local fishing and tour boats.

Practical

The Municipal Port Fund of Thira lists vessel lifting and launching among the fishery shelter's services, but publishes no lift capacity, hardstand size or tariff, and no independent yard or chandlery was found. Treat it as an emergency haul-out for small boats and ask the Port Fund (+30 22860 28362) or the marina office (+30 22860 82119) what crane or trailer is available. For a planned haul-out, Syros (Ermoupoli) and Paros have proper yards. In March 2026 the Port Fund removed five abandoned sailing yachts from the land and water area of the shelter. Coordinates are OSM's marina centroid. Medgulets' marina guide: lifting and launching are among the services, the published limits are boats up to 20 m and 3 m draught, and berthing is alongside or rafted, not on laid moorings. Silting is the big issue: southerly winds and winter storms fill the entrance and, without dredging, anything drawing more than 1.5 m cannot get in. Two submerged ancient moles lie off the obvious line in, so call the marina for the current depth and transit before arriving. No winter-storage or travel-lift service was found.
