Vari Bay (Syros)

37° 23.2′ N · 24° 56.9′ E

A wide sandy bay on the south coast with a beach village. It is a quiet southern lee from the meltemi and the classic first stop south of Ermoupoli.

Practical

Sailingissues: anchor in 4-5 m on good sand at 37.38745N 24.94787E, avoiding the shallows to the north; Giosifaki taverna is on the north-east beach. Grecosailor reviewers (near 37.3898N 24.9443E) report good holding and good protection. They warn that the small quay is too shallow for sailboats and that you need a long hose for water. A small grocery store is nearby. George Yachts recommends it in north winds. Exposed to the south. Achladi cove and fishing harbour lie just west.

Best for

Overnight meltemi lee on the south coast
