Azolimnos Bay (Syros)

37° 24.6′ N · 24° 58.0′ E

A small sandy bay and fishing village on the east coast just south of Ermoupoli. It is calmer than the town quay, and the village is known locally for its coffee.

Practical

Grecosailor reviewers report sand with excellent holding and no swell in 15-25 kn SSW wind, and say it is quieter than Ermoupoli. The Port Fund's small fishing harbour has a boulder windward mole that protects it from the north-east. Its piers, water for swimmers, toilets and boat ramp are for local boats, so anchor off. Open to the east and to meltemi swell wrapping around from the north-east. Cafés ashore (the village is known for its coffee). The OSM chart shows scattered rocks off the coast between Azolimnos and Vari, so stay well offshore on passage south (see Vari-Azolimnos Coastal Route).

Best for

Calm-weather lunch stop near town; refuge from SW winds

Season
