Megali Agkali Anchorage (Didymi islet)

37° 25.5′ N · 24° 58.6′ E

A sheltered inlet on the south side of Didymi (Gaidaros), the islet at the mouth of Ermoupoli bay. It is the local escape from the ferry-washed town quay, with a meltemi lee and town lights across the water.

Practical

Sailingissues gives the anchor spot mid-inlet at 37.42471N 24.97619E in about 6 m with excellent holding and good meltemi shelter; George Yachts agrees (about 6 m, excellent, meltemi-sheltered). A Grecosailor review of the beach end (about 37.4255N 24.9784E) reports sand, rock and seagrass, with rocky patches that did not hold (it took two tries) and occasional swell from passing boats. Look for a sand patch. Open to the south, so leave if a southerly is forecast. The lighthouse on the islet's west end is visible only when close. No facilities; Ermoupoli is about 2 nm by boat.
