Sykamia Bay (Serifos)

37° 11.9′ N · 24° 28.4′ E

One of Serifos's largest beaches, a sweep of fine sand and tamarisks in the NW, with the hamlet of Sykamia and a summer taverna behind.

Practical

SailingIssues: the beach anchorage is the default, but it is more exposed to northerlies. Weed patches make holding poor, so use maximum scope and take a line ashore. The wider area (Psarometochi) gets violent south gusts in rare southerlies. mySea marks a spot off the beach with sand and weed and good holding. The Skala cove in the same bay is better in N–WSW winds. e-serifos warns that the north wind 'catches' this beach, so check the forecast. A summer restaurant sits behind the beach. Trails 5, 6 and 7 come down to Sykamia from Panagia and Galani. The Taxiarchis feast is on July 12-13 (municipal calendar).
