Platis Gialos (Serifos)

37° 12.2′ N · 24° 30.8′ E

A north-coast bay of three tamarisk-lined sand beaches (Platis Gialos, Mesiano and Vorino). It is the best northerly shelter on that side of the island, about 40 minutes' walk from the Taxiarches monastery.

Practical

SailingIssues: excellent protection in northerlies, open only to E–SE, though strong south gusts are possible in southerlies. Anchor in 3-6 m on sand, avoiding weed. Rocks line both sides of the north pier, but a line can be taken to its end. Rocky ledges lie near the beach. mySea: 3-6 m sand and weed, good holding. The summer taverna is at Mesiano (e-serifos); Nikoulias is mapped on OpenStreetMap. The Agioi Apostoloi feast is held here on June 28-29 (municipal calendar).
