Skinos Bay / South Bay (Rineia)

37° 22.9′ N · 25° 14.3′ E

Rineia's best meltemi anchorage: a sand-floored bay on the south coast with excellent holding and room for a few yachts in its NE cove. It's the classic quiet overnight before a Delos visit, below the ancient Delian necropolis.

Practical

Excellent holding in sand, with good protection from the meltemi (Sailingissues). Room for only a few yachts in the NE cove. In mild southerlies, take a line to the rocks. A well on the west shore is the only water mentioned. Otherwise there are no facilities, and Rineia has no shops, power or ferry service (MedGulets). The southern half of Rineia was the necropolis of Delos, and the 426-425 BC Purification Pit was found on Rineia. Grave markers remain, so don't disturb anything (the island is an archaeological site). OpenSeaMap shows anchorages at 37.38392, 25.23795 and 37.38189, 25.24063. About 2 nm SW of the Delos harbour.
