Ornos Anchoring Zones & Swim Area (Port Fund rules)

37° 25.2′ N · 25° 19.5′ E · approximate

Ornos Bay is a regulated harbour zone, not a free-for-all. The Port Fund's 2024 rules mark out a buoyed swimming area, a visitor anchoring strip and a boat channel, and set where larger yachts and catamarans may lie.

Practical

From the Port Fund's 2024 'Kanonistiki Ornou' memo (Greek; our translation). Swim zone: 140 m out from the middle of the central Ornos beach. Visitor strip: a 60 m-wide zone just outside the swim zone for temporary anchoring by visiting boats, supervised by the Port Fund; for visitors under 15 m the fee is set by the Port Fund, which will lay moorings in fixed positions (one boat per mooring). Channel: a 17 m-wide boat lane from the beach out to 500 m, buoyed for the first 200 m. Zone 1 (quay): visiting professional and private boats 3-15 m for short stays, refuelling allowed. Zone 5: anchoring for boats up to 15 m within a 500 m radius of the Ornos quay. Zone 6: boats over 15 m, and catamarans of any length, only by application and approval from the Port Fund (Law 4504/2017, art. 103). The harbour zone runs 500 m offshore (Law 2971/2001, art. 20). Fees were not published, so verify locally. Practical reading: monohulls under 15 m anchor outside the buoys and clear of the channel, while catamarans should email marina@mykonosports.gr first. Mykonos Port Authority: +30 22890 22218, mykonos@hcg.gr. Position is approximate, in the bay south of the swim zone.
