Ornos Bay (Mykonos)

37° 25.0′ N · 25° 19.5′ E

The most popular yacht anchorage on Mykonos: a wide sandy bay south of Chora backed by a lively village, beach restaurants and superyachts. Days are breezy but nights are usually calm.

Practical

Anchor in the SE corner (Sailingissues). Holding is only mediocre in sand and weed, so dig in well and lay plenty of chain. In a meltemi, fierce gusts come down from the NE. Marinatips rates it good in NE-SE and fair in N and W, and it's fully open to the south, so leave in a southerly. The buoys in the bay are private. Land the dinghy at the small jetty. Supermarket, bakery, butcher and pharmacy are in the village (see Ornos Provisions), and Chora is a 30-minute walk or a short bus or taxi. Sea-taxi boats and Delos and Rineia tour boats run from here, so watch their wash. Very crowded in July-August.
