Naoussa Venetian Castle & Old Port

37° 7.5′ N · 25° 14.2′ E

The half-drowned ruins of the Venetian fort guard the mouth of Naoussa's tiny fishing harbour, where caiques tie up beneath ouzeries and octopus hangs out to dry.

Practical

Naoussa was founded by the Venetians around the late 14th century, and partial remains of their fortress survive (Wikipedia). Sailingissues places the 15th-century fortification ruins halfway along the breakwater. In 1770-1775 Naoussa was a Russian naval base during the Orlov Revolt (Wikipedia; paros.gr). The old fishing harbour itself rarely has room for visitors (mySea, Naousa harbour; coastguard station +30 22840 51250), so use the marina or anchor out. Also in Naoussa: an archaeological museum with finds from the Mycenaean acropolis at Koukounaries, and a folklore museum (paros.gr). Position from the OpenStreetMap 'Fort of Naousa' outline.
