Mykonos Old Port Zones, Caique & Dinghy Rules

37° 26.9′ N · 25° 19.7′ E · approximate

The Port Fund splits Chora's Old Port into 14 numbered berthing zones for local caiques, fishing boats, Delos ferries, the SeaBus and cruise tenders. Visiting sailing yachts and their crews have almost no place in it, so know the zones before you motor a dinghy in.

Practical

From the Port Fund 'Memo of Mykonos Old Port Regulation'. Zones 1-2 are for residents' traditional boats of 18-30 m. Zone 3 is for residents' traditional and fishing boats of 3-15 m, and Zone 4 for residents' caiques of 5-18 m lying at anchor. Zones 5-6 hold cruise-ship tender boats, with Zone 5 needing Port Police confirmation and fishing boats allowed only short stops. Zones 7 and 11 are SeaBus stops. Zone 8 is for residents' transfer boats to Delos. Zone 9 is for the Agricultural Association's traditional boat. Zone 10 takes 8 visiting boats of 7-10 m plus one 15-30 m residents' traditional boat, for disembarking passengers only, and boats with sails are excluded. Zone 12 is for visiting yachts over 25 m and cruise tenders. Zone 13 is for coasters and cruise service boats. Zone 14, the fishing shelter, takes boats over 3 m. The Port Fund's yacht rules bar sailing yachts of any size from berthing in the Old Port. The memo names no landing spot for visiting dinghies, so call the marina manager first (tel 22890 28790 or 6946 942091; SMS works). The easier option is to berth at Tourlos and ride the SeaBus to its Old Port stop. Keep clear of cruise tenders working Zones 5, 6 and 12. Petrol bunkering is allowed in Zone 14, and in Zone 13 after Port Police or Port Office confirmation, but only when no cruise tenders are working Zone 12. Position is the OSM harbour feature. The zone boundaries are on the Port Fund harbour map, not given as coordinates.
