Kleftiko Anchorage

36° 39.0′ N · 24° 20.0′ E

Milos's pirate cove on the remote south-west tip: white volcanic cliffs eroded into arches, stacks and sea caves around three small bays of vivid turquoise water. Day boats crowd it at midday; stay overnight in calm weather to have it almost to yourself.

Practical

Sailing Issues: best in calm weather and overnight, as day-trip boats visit; good holding on sand with many options for lines ashore; completely open to the south; in northerlies, shelter is better below the cliffs than near the beach. Greeka: boat-only access (the footpath crosses Milos viper habitat), little sand, superb snorkelling; tour boats from Adamas arrive daily. Arrive late in the afternoon and leave after an early-morning swim to avoid the tripper fleet. No facilities. Allow about 12 nm by sea from Adamas around the west coast (area itinerary).

Best for

An overnight under the arches after the day boats leave

Season

Settled weather Jun–Sep; untenable in any southerly
