Kamari Anchorage (Santorini)

36° 22.2′ N · 25° 28.9′ E

A long east-coast bay off Kamari's black-sand beach, under the 396 m limestone mass of Mesa Vouno and Ancient Thera.

Practical

Grecosailor: sand, good holding in 7-8 m. Keep outside the marked swimming zone and use the marked channel for the tender. Shelter from the meltemi is good, but one crew reported katabatic gusts over 40 knots off the mountain every night before midnight, so anchor with plenty of chain and an anchor watch. Open to the east and southeast. Ashore: tavernas, bars, mini markets and dive centres along the promenade. A water taxi runs to Perissa around the headland (Greeka).

Best for

Meltemi shelter near the airport and Ancient Thera

Season

Summer N-NW winds; beware night gusts; exposed E-SE
