Kamares Bay Anchorage (Sifnos)

36° 59.5′ N · 24° 40.5′ E

The inner anchorage off Kamares beach at the head of the inlet, where most yachts end up in summer while waiting for (or instead of) a quay berth.

Practical

SailingIssues: aim for the NE corner of the bay in about 5 m. Holding is not always good, so lay out all your chain. mySea gives 3-15 m. Its port entry describes sand and weed with moderate holding, and a 2014 commenter found muddy ground that held well but brought up a foul-smelling grey sludge. In the meltemi expect gusts falling off the hills (mySea: 'leave plenty of scope'). Strong W–S winds send swell straight in. Dinghy to the beach or the slipway end of the quay. Kamares beach is Blue Flag (Wikivoyage, 2020).

Best for

Waiting out the ferries or a cheap night off Kamares

Season

May–Oct; avoid in W–S blows
