Kalotyri Bay (Amorgos)
36° 52.8′ N · 25° 55.6′ E
A splendid bay tucked under Nikouria island, with crystal-clear water and excellent snorkelling, a short hop from Aegiali or Katapola.
Practical
Anchor mid-bay in 20 m, or (sailingissues' favourite) close to the beach in 4-8 m. The bottom is hard sand with thick weed, so check the anchor visually. Sudden severe gusts can come over the low, thin part of the island; otherwise meltemi-proof, but less suitable in strong easterlies and southerlies (sailingissues). George Yachts: 5-10 m over sand, good but not everywhere; anchor under the church; strong gusts. The Kakoperato channel to the east is for calm conditions only (see passage).
Best for
Meltemi anchorage with superb snorkelling
Season
Meltemi season; not in strong E or S
