Galissas Bay (Syros)

37° 25.3′ N · 24° 52.6′ E

A broad sandy bay with a Blue Flag beach, a resort village and a short mole. It sits on the protected west coast, about 1.5 nm north of Finikas.

Practical

Sailingissues: anchor in 4-7 m off the beach; the short mole has partly subsided, and outside the season a small catamaran may fit behind it. Grecosailor reviewers report excellent holding in sand but warn that the swimming zone covers the whole inner bay in summer, so anchor outside the buoys. Like the whole west coast, it is sheltered from the north, but severe NE gusts come over the hills. Tavernas: see Iliovasilema, Savvas and Kapari (Galissas). Bars can be noisy at night. Minimarkets ashore.

Best for

Beach-village overnight in moderate meltemi

Season

N winds (with gusts); exposed to W-SW
