Ermoupoli Marina (Syros)

37° 26.4′ N · 24° 56.5′ E

The yacht quay of Ermoupoli, the neoclassical capital of the Cyclades. You come in under the white Catholic hill town of Ano Syros and the Orthodox hill of Vrontado, then tie up stern-to a few steps from cafés, supermarkets and Miaoulis Square.

Practical

Run by the Municipal Port Fund of Syros: about 100 yacht berths (70 sail, 30 motor) on roughly 260 m of quay, mostly on the northern stretch of the harbour; keep the ferries to port as you enter. Quay depths 4.5 m (section A6-A7) and 8 m (A7-A8). Berth stern-to on your own anchor. YACHT (Aug 2025) advises at least 7x depth in chain, a well-set anchor, about 1.5 m between boats, and lifting the passerelle whenever you leave the boat. Ferries run day and night in summer and their wash surges along the quay. Shelter: the Port Fund says it is protected from almost all weather except south-easterlies; meltemi gusts and swell still make it rolly, though a Grecosailor review reports lying safely to the wall in a 30 kn SW wind. Harbourmaster Athanasios (Thanasis) Loudaros +30 693 264 4072 helps with berths and lines and collects power and water fees. Port office 22810-82336, contact@portofsyros.gr, open 8am-1pm and 5pm-10pm; showers 9am-12pm and 6pm-9pm. Call the Port Authority on VHF 12 before entering; Grecosailor lists the quay attendant on VHF 10 (verify). Port Fund of Syros berthing for private yachts is an annual rate per metre divided by 365: 7.01-10 m EUR 150/m, 10.01-15 m EUR 170/m, 15.01 m+ EUR 200/m (so a 12 m yacht is about EUR 5.59/night), plus 25% for side-to (alongside) berthing, plus 24% VAT. Water and power, first day: up to 13 m EUR 12 (200 L water, 2 kW, one shower); 13.01-15 m and catamarans EUR 15 (400 L, 2 kW, one shower); after that prepaid cards EUR 2.20 + VAT per 150 L or 2 kW (13% VAT on these services). The price page states no effective date (viewed Oct 2026), so verify locally. Fuel and water by arrangement; see Ermoupoli Fuel (Syros). The town has the best provisioning between Athens and Paros.
