Chrysopigi Monastery (Sifnos)

36° 56.2′ N · 24° 44.8′ E

The island's patron church, Panagia Chrysopigi (1523), sits on a split rock islet joined to the shore by a footbridge on the SE coast. Swimmers leap off the surrounding rocks.

Practical

Municipality: the monastery dates from 1523 and is the patron and protector of the island, celebrated on the eve of Ascension Day (see the Chrysopigi Panigyri entry). There is a small quay on its north side, but SailingIssues says nearby rock shelves make mooring very difficult, so come by dinghy only from Apokofto or Faros. The paved, lit footpath from Glyfo and Apokofto leads here. Saoures pebble beach is just west. Wikivoyage notes two tavernas near the church. Trail 2 from Kastro ends here (5.8 km).
