Faros Bay (Sifnos)

36° 56.6′ N · 24° 45.1′ E

A sheltered fishing harbour and hamlet on the SE coast, the island's main port until 1883, with a small quay, waterside tavernas and walking paths to Chrysopigi.

Practical

SailingIssues: good meltemi shelter, but gusts come from the NE, and it is open to southerlies. Most yachts avoid going stern-to on the quay: holding is mediocre and only the southern half of the quay is deep enough. Anchor in the bay with maximum scope, go alongside, or take a line to the rocks between the two beaches. Use a tripline because of permanent moorings. mySea: 7-14 m sand and weed, moderate holding; quay depth 2-2.8 m, usually full of local boats. Ask at the tavernas if you need fuel (mySea), or call Komis EKO for delivery (+30 22840 31778). Floating objects and crowding make manoeuvring tight for catamarans (mySea). Ashore: To Limanaki (SailingIssues), O Faros and Flaros (OpenStreetMap), Kakakis mini market and two bakeries. Faros has a small stone theatre for summer events (municipality), and Ai Yiannis holds a small feast on the morning of August 29.
