Alopronia Harbour (Sikinos)

36° 40.5′ N · 25° 8.7′ E

The only harbour on sleepy Sikinos: a ferry quay and small pontoon in front of a sandy beach on the south coast. You anchor in front of the hamlet of Alopronia, and Chora rides the ridge 3 km above.

Practical

Position from Grecosailor's 'Sikinos Port' anchoring spot (36°40'29.4"N 25°08'41.1"E): sand in 4 m, excellent holding on 30 m of chain; a crew rode out a 33-kn meltemi here. Ferries pass within about 50 m of the stern, and the tender can be left at the dock. Berthing (Sailing Issues): the basin beyond the ferry quay is silted and extremely shallow. Go stern-to or alongside behind the ferry quay, at the south-westernmost berth, with a trip line. A second anchor can be laid by dinghy directly north in under 1 m. The 2025 update to that page reports a pontoon with room for about 4 monohulls on the outside, where they roll in swell; lie alongside on its north side only when it is not gusty. The pontoon lies ENE-NE, not N as drawn in the Greek Waters Pilot, and the west side of the basin that the pilot suggests is now completely silted. Fuel and water are limited, so arrange them at the quay in advance (Grecosailor) or fill up on Ios. Ashore: Marconi café and tavernas, a mini-market, and municipal umbrellas on the beach. The bus to Chora meets the ferries and also runs to Episkopi (sikinos.gr); the walk down from Chora takes about 40 minutes (Sailing Issues). Caiques run to the remote beaches. Only a National Bank of Greece ATM on the island, so carry cash.
