Vaitape Wharf Fresh Water

16° 30.4′ S · 151° 45.2′ W · approximate

The automated, card-operated freshwater tap at the Vaitape town dock, Bora Bora's only reliable public water point for cruisers now that Bloody Mary's wharf is closed.

Practical

Buy a prepaid card from the BBMS mooring attendant: 2,000 XPF for 700 litres plus a 1,000 XPF card deposit (Noonsite, June 2026); the deposit is refunded when you return the card (via the grocery store or the mooring attendant, 2020 report). The tap is automated: insert and remove the card exactly as instructed, or it will not flow; unused litres stay on the card. Floating Lab advises against trying at weekends. Coordinate is the Vaitape dock (approx; exact tap position not published). Fill jerry cans by dinghy. Bloody Mary's wharf tap, formerly used with a key from the bar, is out of action while the hotel is built.
