Parc Vairai, Punaauia (former anchorage, now prohibited)

17° 34.7′ S · 149° 37.2′ W

The sandy anchorage off Parc Vairai, south of Marina Taina, was a popular overflow spot when Taina was full; since the July 2026 port notice it is a prohibited zone.

Practical

Coordinates: the 2023 anchoring position reported by Four Birds (17°34.654'S, 149°37.209'W). The Port autonome notice of 9 July 2026 lists 'Zone Vairai' and P6 (north-west of Motu Tahiri) as prohibited, and bans mooring or anchoring anywhere except approved buoys in P0, P1 (Taina) and P3–P5 (Motu Tahiri); fines and forced removal at the owner's cost apply. The old 'Airport / Coral Gardens' anchorage (about 17°33.40'S, 149°37.44'W) is likewise closed, and the Taina 'F' airport moorings were removed in 2025. Use it only as a dinghy landing: the park beach is a 5-minute walk from Carrefour with 24-hour security and a bus stop at the entrance (2023). Confirm the current map with the Capitainerie (+689 40 47 48 82, VHF 12).
