InterContinental Tahiti Lagoonarium (Faa'a)

17° 34.2′ S · 149° 37.3′ W · approximate

An open-air 'aquarium' between the InterContinental's motu and its main pool: shallow, calm water where the hotel feeds the fish several times a day and runs coral-cutting projects.

Practical

Approximate: snorkeling-report's map position for the resort spot, taken from its accommodation link; the lagoonarium is inside the resort grounds. Depth 1–1.5 m in the lagoonarium and 1–2 m around the overwater bungalows; a small reef sits about 50 m off the bungalows. Corals are damaged in places; regal and lemonpeel angelfish, raccoon butterflyfish, Moorish idols, convict tangs and many damselfish (page updated May 2023). Access cost is listed as 'stay at the resort', though bars and restaurants are open to non-guests, so ask at reception before swimming. Stay on the inner reef: boats use the nearby channel toward Marina Taina.
