Matira Ridge WWII Cannons Walk
16° 32.5′ S · 151° 44.3′ W
A short or long loop along the Matira ridge (Paahonu, Verohiti, Rufau) that passes two American WWII cannons above the island's southern tip, with views both ways over the lagoon.
Practical
Coordinate is Tahiti Tourisme's Bobcat south artillery battery pin. Tahiti Tourisme lists the walk as 'Les vieux canons américains' with short and long loops; OSM maps an 'Accès crête sud' track and a bunker on the ridge. Combine with a swim at Matira Beach. Go early; little shade.
