Matira Beach (Bora Bora)
16° 32.2′ S · 151° 44.5′ W
Bora Bora's best public beach: a long curve of white sand and shallow turquoise water at the island's southern tip, with snorkeling off the beach, a picnic park, and the finish line of the Hawaiki Nui Va'a canoe race.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM beach centroid. Public access; picnic area beside the beach (Tahiti Tourisme). Named after a whaleboat that came to Polynesia in 1790. Dinghy from the Povai mooring zone, landing on the sand away from swimmers, or walk about 20 minutes south from the old Bloody Mary's (2019 report). Snacks and roulottes along the road behind. Women should cover up away from the beach in villages (charter guidance).
Best for
Swimming, sunsets and a beach lunch
