Matira Point

16° 32.8′ S · 151° 44.0′ W

The low sandy southern tip of Bora Bora, where you can wade out on the sand flats and look across the lagoon to the south-east motus, Toopua and the outer reef, with Otemanu behind.

Practical

Coordinate from the OSM 'Mātira' cape node. The flats off the point are too shallow for keelboats; yachts cannot pass around it, but dinghies and kayaks can, giving access to the Coral Garden at Motu Piti Uu Uta (bora-bora-insider). WWII Bobcat south battery cannons stand on the ridge just above (see Matira Ridge walk).

Best for

Wading and sunset views at the island's tip
