Coral Garden (Motu Piti Uu Uta)
16° 32.5′ S · 151° 43.6′ W
Bora Bora's classic Coral Garden: a shallow channel of colorful coral and dense reef fish (parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish) beside the motus off Matira Point, with rays and reef sharks in the deeper edges.
Practical
Coordinate from the OSM 'Coral Garden' node beside Motu Piti Uu Uta (Sofitel private island). Yachts cannot sail around Matira Point (too shallow); smaller keel-free craft and dinghies can (bora-bora-insider). By dinghy from the Motu Fare One mooring zone (about 1.3 nm) or Povai via Matira Point in calm conditions. NauticEd describes dense coral with sharks and stingrays at the southern tip of Pointe Fareone. Busy with tour boats and jet-ski 'trains' by late morning, so go early. Yachtwarriors suggests anchoring the dinghy on sand, never coral.
