Jardin des Roses (Rose Garden) Deep Dive
17° 29.0′ S · 149° 51.2′ W · approximate
Moorea's deepest recreational dive: a field of rose-shaped plate corals at about 40–45 m on the outer slope near Opunohu Pass. Few fish live on the roses themselves, but lemon and grey sharks often come up out of the blue to inspect divers.
Practical
Approximate: Tahiti Tourisme puts the Jardin des Roses inside the Opunohu Canyon site at 40 m; pin set on the outer slope just north of the canyons, ±400 m. Moorea Blue Diving gives about 45 m and requires Level 2 (Advanced) certification; Scubapiti lists it at 40 m 'for levels that allow it'. A shallower 'Small Rose Garden and Coral Wall' at 13–21 m nearby was logged by 2004 cruisers with seven or more blacktips in view; Scubapiti's Coral Wall (Turtle Reef) at 15–25 m is the turtle site of the island. Short bottom time at this depth; nitrox is not offered by Moorea Fun Dive (2026), so ask your operator. Feeding sharks and fish is prohibited (2026 brief). Under the 2025 anchoring decree divers may not use occupied ZMR moorings; dive with an operator or from a tended dinghy flying a dive flag.
