Lemon Shark Dives (Lemon Shark Valley, Mamaru, Eden Park)

17° 28.6′ S · 149° 50.4′ W · approximate

Moorea's lemon-shark sites on the north-coast outer reef, where sicklefin lemon sharks up to about 3 m cruise in with blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, usually on the first dive of the morning. These were once the island's shark-feeding dives; feeding is now prohibited and the sharks still show up.

Practical

Approximate: operators do not publish positions. Moorea Blue Diving says all its sites lie between Cook's Bay and Opunohu Bay within 15 minutes by boat, so the pin is a representative outer-slope point between Avaroa and Tareu passes, ±1 km. Scubapiti: Mamaru and Eden Park 15–25 m, Level 1 / Open Water; lemon sharks are present year-round and most often seen on the 7:30am dive at Mamaru, Eden Park and Lemon Shark Valley. Moorea Blue Diving adds Les Jumeaux for lemon sharks. History: a 2004 cruiser log said 'the dive operators in Moorea feed the sharks', and a 2011 Soggy Paws report noted Moorea Fun Dive did not feed 'unlike other operators'; Lemon Shark Valley was 'particularly impressive' for large pelagics. The 2026 Service du Tourisme brief reminds visitors that shark feeding is prohibited, so do not book or expect a feeding dive. Scubapiti fun dive 8,500 XPF, two morning dives 14,500 XPF (2026). Feeding sharks and fish is prohibited (2026 brief). Under the 2025 anchoring decree divers may not use occupied ZMR moorings; dive with an operator or from a tended dinghy flying a dive flag.
