Haamene Bay

16° 38.5′ S · 151° 28.2′ W

A narrow, steep-sided bay that cuts about two miles into the middle of Taha'a from the east coast. French Wikipedia calls it the deepest bay in French Polynesia. It is flat calm and green, with Haamene village at its head.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Baie de Ha'amene' point. Mid-bay depths on the decree chart run about 27–37 m, too deep to anchor. Overnight options are the two buoys of ZMR de Haamene at the head (24 h) and ZMR de Vaiapua at the mouth (48 h); Faaaha Bay opens just to the north. Beacons line the shore (Iso.R.4s, Oc.G.4s) on the decree chart. The bay is the start of the old 4WD track over the island to Patio.
