Anau Manta Ray Site

16° 30.0′ S · 151° 42.7′ W · approximate

Two coral reefs separated by a sand strip in the east lagoon off Anau, where manta rays glide between the reefs and are visible from the surface, along with turtles, blacktip sharks and eagle rays.

Practical

Tahiti Tourisme: in the lagoon east of Anau village, opposite the Méridien; depth from 5 m to a maximum of 30 m. Position derived as a point midway between Anau village and the Méridien/Westin motu (approx); OSM also maps a 'Snorkeling raie manta' spot about 1 nm north. On the east-side channel route, there is no dinghy tie-off: hold station on the catamaran and drop snorkelers (NauticEd). Approach mantas slowly, never touch them, and keep the outboard well clear. Dive centers (Top Dive, Bora Diving Center, Dive n' Smile) run trips.
