Mount Otemanu

16° 30.1′ S · 151° 44.0′ W

The sheer, 727 m basalt plug at the heart of Bora Bora, the extinct volcano's highest point and the most photographed mountain in the South Pacific; its name is said to mean 'the peak which sucks up living things'.

Practical

Coordinate from OSM (peak node), consistent with Tahiti Tourisme. The summit itself is not climbable; guided hikes of a few hours reach high viewpoints and the Ana o Pea cave via rope-assisted, very steep sections over private land, so a guide is required (Expert World Travel). Best seen at sunset from the Toopua and Fare Piti moorings.
