Akhy's Coral Palace (Palais de la Mer)

16° 26.1′ S · 152° 15.1′ W · approximate

A house built entirely of shells and coral by the Polynesian singer Akhy Firuu, who has spent decades turning it into an imitation of the sea floor. Each pillar tells the story of one of his hit songs.

Practical

OSM: 'Palais de la mer' on the main road in Haranae, posted hours Mon-Sat 9am-4pm (verify locally). Tahiti Heritage describes the gate sign 'appelle-moi BB' and the shell-lined rooms, and maps it at -16.44342, -152.27439. The two map points differ, so ask locally. A small donation is customary; this is a private home and museum.
