Tubuai Small-Boat Marina

23° 20.6′ S · 149° 28.6′ W · approximate

A small local-boat 'marina' basin next to the ferry jetty, a possible bolt-hole from northerly weather for shoal-draft yachts that get local permission.

Practical

Approximate position: beside the jetty breakwater (Chugach describes it as adjacent to the jetty; the basin is not mapped). Entrance 7 m wide between reefs, minimum 2 m before the entrance, then more than 3 m inside except close to the quays (1.4 m). The challenge is the number of small local mooring buoys. Pitufa (2018) found 'the basin further in with a small dock' too shallow for 2.1 m draft. Scout by dinghy first and ask the locals for permission (Chugach, Sept 2020).
