Tubuai Plongee Whale Watching and Diving

Tubuai's dive centre, 150 m from the jetty, runs humpback whale trips (swimming with them when conditions allow) and reef and drift dives on more than a dozen lagoon and pass sites.

Dives were suspended in peak whale season, 20 August to 24 October 2026. Introductory dives from age 8, limited to 5 m. Affiliations SSI and FFESSM/CMAS. Chugach (2020) rated Tubuai's whales 'probably as good as Rurutu but less advertised', often mothers with calves, and drift-dived with Antoine. Jerry-can water and possibly showers are available here. Tahiti Tourisme: more than a dozen dive sites, six for beginners. 2026 tarifs (club site): one dive 8,500 XPF per person (minimum 4); two dives 16,000 XPF (minimum 2); discovery dive 9,500 XPF; half-day whale outing 12,000 XPF; motu taxi return 2,600 XPF adult, 1,600 XPF child under 10. Boat: 7 m aluminium 'Sewen', 10 people, oxygen aboard. Named sites include Lou Gobi (pass) and the Fabulous Drop-off (see those entries).
