Takaroa Shipwreck (County of Roxburgh)
14° 25.9′ S · 144° 59.2′ W
The rusting hull of the County of Roxburgh, a four-masted iron sailing ship built in Glasgow in 1886, still sits on Takaroa's reef where a 1906 storm drove her ashore with her sails blown out.
Practical
Position from OpenStreetMap (wreck, hull showing, sunk 1906) on the reef rim NE of the village. Built by Barclay, Curle & Co. for R. & J. Craig; 87 m long, 2,209 GRT; she was on passage from Caldera, Chile to Melbourne when she lost all her sails and drifted onto the reef (Wikimedia Commons). Approach only in calm conditions and do not climb on the rusting hull.
