Takaroa East End Anchorage
14° 24.1′ S · 144° 52.2′ W
A large, well-protected anchorage at the far east end of Takaroa's lagoon with great holding, used to wait out east winds or a weather window to the Marquesas.
Practical
Position 14°24.096'S 144°52.187'W (Elvira Sweden, Nov 2023). The route east is marked with buoys; stay close to them. The last mile is unmarked with many bommies (visible on Google satellite imagery). Many abandoned pearl buoys lie inside the buoyed track, some just below the surface; a buoy to starboard may be linked to one to port. Elvira draws 1.35 m and thought 2 m could be a problem. Only with sun and good visibility. Nothing ashore and very few people.
Best for
Long stays in strong east winds
Season
Best in E winds
