Southeast Lagoon Anchorages (Raroia)

16° 6.3′ S · 142° 22.7′ W

A string of pretty, well-protected spots along the reef south of the pearl farm. You can anchor almost anywhere behind the eastern motus, and the bigger motus give the most wind shelter.

Practical

Soggy Paws (July 2010) waypoints: 16°04.78S / 142°22.31W (pretty, moderate protection from strong winds); 16°06.26S / 142°22.67W (nice, good protection); 16°08.34S / 142°23.56W (nice, good protection). Pass the pearl farm near 16°05.65S / 142°22.59W close to the reef: some buoys are visible, others submerged and unmarked. Going north along the rim is easiest in late afternoon light in July; going south is easy at any time.
