Raroia Coral Garden Snorkel (near Kon-Tiki Motu)

16° 3.7′ S · 142° 21.7′ W

Bommie gardens around the Kon-Tiki anchorage, with reef fish, octopus and blacktip reef sharks patrolling the knee-deep shallows behind the motus.

Practical

Jacaranda's spots (Soggy Paws): 16°03.745S / 142°21.692W close to Kon-Tiki Motu, and 16°04.498S / 142°22.202W about 1/4 mile south of the South Pacific Anchorages waypoint. 'Nothing like the pass but still a nice collection of fish.' Villa Veritas (2022) saw lots of octopus; a night dive was cut short because the sharks were 'disconcertingly interested.' Errantries (2015) saw blacktips circling in knee-deep water near the reef. Visibility varies; best in sunny midday light.

Best for

Easy snorkeling straight off the boat
